Product overview |
As in the Information Age, enterprises are aware of the downside of information
sharing especially within the corporation when their data files might be confidential,
for example, product design. Workstations are in loose safe-guarding for those confidential
files and authorized user rights. How to prevent confidential files from being copied
out of company? Policies are not good enough to protect your ownership; Curtain
is the unique solution to fix this problem. |
Curtain is a document security system that prevents your confidential files from
leaking out of the company. Curtain allows users to access confidential files by using corresponding software, such as MS Word, AutoCAD and SolidWorks, but NOT to
print, save as, or send files to external sources, such as floppy disk, USB disk,
CDR, web mail.

Curtain technology |
Curtain Technology creates a special directory in client machine called "Protected
Directory". When users access confidential files stored in server, files will be
automatically downloaded to client's Protected Directory. Users can do anything
inside Protected Directory (such as New Copy, Rename, Delete, Edit), but they cannot
copy files from Protected Directory to external sources. If users make modifications
on downloaded files and they want to update copies on the server, files can be uploaded
to a pre-defined server location.

Licensing |
Curtain license is calculated by Module and Number of Workstation. To protect an
application, you need to buy Curtain license for the corresponding application.
For several common office applications, we group them into a product called Curtain
e-locker Office Suite which includes Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, MS Excel, MS Paint,
MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. |
For example, if you want to protect MS Word, MS Excel, and PDF files used in the
whole company (i.e. 800 users), you need to buy 800 units of Curtain e-locker Office
Suite.
Another example, you want to protect AutoCAD files used in R&D department. If
you have 20 workstations in R&D department, you need to buy 20 units of Curtain
e-locker for AutoCAD. No more licenses you need to buy!
If you want to protect many applications in your environment, you could choose to
purchase Curtain e-locker Universal License which covers all Curtain supported
applications.

Security Threats |
Organizations in different sectors are facing different security threats. We selected
several sectors and described their challenges in information security.
Manufacturing |
ODM & OBM manufacturers |
OEM manufacturers |
Challenges |
For ODM & OBM manufacturers, they invest a lot of money
in product research & development (R&D). If product information is leaked
to competitors, it will cause inestimable results. |
In general, buyers will provide product specs and designs to
OEM manufacturers for production. The buyers must request OEM manufacturers to use
that information properly. Some buyers even assess manufacturers?procedures and
IT security system to make sure that information is used securely.
Challenges come from |
Internal authorized users. Since they have to access
sensitive information during daily operations, they can easily copy the information
to external sources, such as USB storage devices and Internet mail. From management
point of view, these users should still access the information, but they should
not copy information out of the company if they are not authorized.
Examples of internal threats
Engineers, designers, salespersons, and people who have rights
to read those documents. |
