Reverse engineering (RE) is the process of
discovering the technological principles of a mechanical
application through analysis of its structure, function
and operation. It often involves taking something (e.g.,
a mechanical device, an electronic component, a software
program) apart and analyzing its workings in detail,
usually with the intention to construct a new device or
program that does the same thing without actually
copying anything from the original.
As computer-aided design has become more
popular, reverse engineering has become
a viable method to create a 3D virtual
model of an existing physical part for
use in 3D CAD, CAM, CAE and other
software. The reverse engineering
process involves measuring an object and
then reconstructing it as a 3D model.
The physical object can be measured
using 3D scanning technologies like CMMs,
laser scanners, white light digitizers
or computed tomography. The measured
data, usually represented as a point
cloud, can then be modeled into a format
appropriate for various uses. The point
clouds themselves are not compatible
with most 3D software, so applications
like Imageware, Rapidform or Geomagic
are used to process them into formats
usable in other applications.
GSI was
founded by industry veterans in the
field of 3D computer graphics.
GSI Studio product suites provide
solutions for entertainment,
engineering, and other fields where 3D
digital models are needed. GSI Studio is
easy to use for new users and highly
efficient for experienced professional
designers and engineers to produce high
quality results.
We also offer GSI Orchestra, a
development toolkit (SDK), for customers
and partners to build their application
specific solutions. GSI Orchestra SDK
package is completely modular with
well-defined plug-in APIs so developers
can effectively reuse their code and
algorithms to create a new solution
fast.
GSI offers professional services to
help customers and partners to build
domain specific solutions quickly and
economically.
GSI provides the next generation
design tools for 3D digital model
creation. GSI Studio provides a
comprehensive set of tools for
professional designers to effectively
transform 3D scan data into high quality
ready to use models represented as
refined meshes, curve networks, NURBS
surfaces, and restructured meshes with
full color and texture map support. GSI
solution offers ease of use, high
precision user control, and fast result
generation. GSI product’s modular design
allows it to be easily and quickly
extended and reconfigured for customer
specific workflows.
